Shanghai Memory: The Growth of Financial Industry

The constant theme of this series of documentary programs has been the idea that finance is a key factor shaping a nation’s future.  

It tells the stories of the growth of the financial industry in Shanghai since the early 20th century.

Each episode focuses on a  historical turning point of finance and concerns  how China has developed from a poor and backward country into an economic powerhouse.The presenter of this documentary is Philip Short who is a British biographer and journalist serving for BBC for more than thirty years. He came to China in the beginning of "Opening  up and reform" in 1977 and has deep understanding of the change of  this country.
